Deux chrétiens condamnés à mort pour le meurtre d’un musulman

LE CAIRE, 15 nov 2009 - Deux chrétiens égyptiens ont été condamnés à mort pour le meurtre d'un musulman qu'une de leurs parentes avait épousé après s'être convertie à l'islam, a indiqué dimanche à l'AFP une source judiciaire.

Rami Atef Khella et Raafat Khella, le frère et l'oncle de Mariam Atef Khella, avaient fait irruption il y a plus d'un an dans un immeuble d'Amiriyah, dans le nord du Caire, où habitait le couple et sa fille Nour.

Armé d'un pistolet, Rami avait criblé de balles le mari de sa soeur, Ahmed Salah, qui est mort sur le coup. Mariam et sa fille avaient été blessées, avaient indiqué les services de sécurité à l'époque.

Le verdict a été transmis au mufti de la République Ali Gomaa, qui, en tant qu'autorité religieuse, doit approuver toutes les sentences de mort -à l'exception de celles émises par des tribunaux militaires- avant qu'elles ne soient appliquées.

Le mufti doit se prononcer lundi, a indiqué la source judiciaire.

Mariam Atef Khella avait fui sa famille et son village pour pouvoir se convertir à l'islam et épouser Ahmed Salah.

Les Coptes, ou chrétiens d'Egypte, sont la plus importante communauté chrétienne du Moyen-Orient. Leur nombre est estimé entre 6 et 10% de la population totale du pays, qui compte près de 80 millions d'habitants.
