Abner Cantu (b. 1973) is a Hispanic inmate in Texas. He has been on death row since 2000. He was sentenced to death in 2001 for the alleged murder of his cousin James Mosqueda and Amy Kitchen, James’ girlfriend, in Dallas: the motive, according to the prosecution, was retaliation for a drug deal gone wrong. Ivan, however, has always claimed he is innocent.

Ivan has been in contact with St. Egidio for nearly 20 years, through pen pals. Now that the execution has been set for April 26, 2023, we call for mercy for Ivan as we advocate for a firm renunciation to any logic of revenge and violence. We ask that his life be spared.
